We plan to fill and send 50 backpacks to other young people such as ourselves who are found in the 6 different orphanages that our parish supports in Ukraine.  (could be as young as 2 years or as old as 17)

Imagine, this may be the only Christmas Present they receive this year may be this one from us. (Interesting fact:  In this part of Europe they exchange gifts on Dec. 6, St. Nicholas day, not Christmas.)

The shopping for most of the stuff will be done ahead of time by volunteers with budgets.  For example: Miss “X” with her parents may be sent off to find 50 bags of socks for $4 each or 50 boxes of pencils for $2 each.  This will be all explained on September 11th at our first youth group meeting.  If you and your family want to volunteer please be there.  If you can’t make it, simply sign up in the atrium of the Church before the 11th.  We have it in our budget to pay for the items, however if families or parishioners want to donate the items that would be awesome.

On the 25th, we will gather all the stuff together and start sorting and personalizing the gifts.  They will be labeled for boys or girls and for different age groups.  We can send letters or artwork with the gifts and (if you wish) you could even become pen pals with some of them.  Once they are all filled, they will be loaded up and sent with other bags from across the province to Ukraine where they will be distributed to those most in need by Ukrainian Catholic Nuns (Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate).

If anyone wants to donate a filled bag already, we will take that too.  Just see the guidelines and such below.  Also, it costs about $7 per bag for shipping.

Then on the 25th, after we sort and load all the bags we get to have a great time SUMO WRESTLING with those big funny sumo suits.  Food and snacks will also be provided.  Hope to see you there.  Bring a friend.

Making sure every child gets to feel the warmth of Christmas cheer.

We are preparing for our Annual St Nicholas Gifts delivery and we need your help. This year, more than ever with all the turmoil in Ukraine the children are in desperate need.

For any child receiving a gift at Christmas time is a joyous occasion. But for a child that never had a gift ever before: this is a gift from heaven. Collecting and packing shoe bags starts in September each year.

One way we can help from Canada is by sending love and packages through the help of St Nicholas. Our Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate organizing St Nicholas concerts for the children in villages around Ukraine where they deliver the presents sent through the Bridge of Hope. Last year, we started sending shoe bags, backpacks and purses filled with gifts instead of the boxes. The children loved the bags which are more useful than a box and can be used all year long.

Where will my gifts be delivered?

The Sister Servants hand pick needy children from the areas they serve – these sponsored children will receive shoe bags, as well as children living in the orphanages that Bridge of Hope supports.

When will the children receive the shoebags?

Children will receive their gifts in time for St. Nicholas (Sv. Nikolai). Gifts that do not make it in time for St. Nicholas will be delivered for Easter.

How can I partner with Bridge of Hope in addition to packing a shoe box?

We need volunteers during the month of October to prepare boxes for delivery. For more information, check out our volunteer opportunities page. Also, consider rallying your church, community, workplace, family and friends to get more shoebags filled!

What does the $7 cover? Can I send cash?

A donation of $7 or more helps us cover project expenses such as shipping the boxes. We prefer that these donations be made by cash or check. Unfortunately we are not currently set up to take online donations at this time.

If I send more than one box, can I write one check for all of them?

Yes, you may write one check for them all and place it in any one of your boxes.
